10. Gardens and Goodbyes

6/4

The gardens were one of my favorite visits. Villa Adriana was like a self guided ruins. It's crazy to think that it was simply used for hosting dinner parties when it is full of ancient Roman ruins. The Villa reminded me of the Boboli garden in Florence but more like a landscape. The Roman artifacts revealed themselves as you approach them rather than being in the open giving a sense of wandering.

The Gardens of the Villa d'Este was absolutley beautiful. There were SO many fountains. The organ fountain was spectacular. I have no idea how they were able to have a water powered organ play solely using water pressure.

The circulation for the most part felt like a linear maze. There were main axi's the garden follewed and walkways that branched off from them.

The premises were well kept and the public resting areas felt purposeful. With such a large space, it still felt intimate.
